Nissan has decided to offer its Serena MPV in Thailand at the upcoming Thailand International Motor Expo.
The model to be launched is not the latest generation though – during the first phase Nissan will import the Serena C27 (introduced in 2017) before following up with the Serena C28 (introduced in 2022) in 2025.
The C27 will be imported from Malaysia where it has been offered for several years, but the C28 version would likely be shipped from Japan once it is offered here, according to an industry source.
“Nissan needs to expand its product lineup but couldn’t wait for the C28 next year as dealers do not have enough products to sell. So it decided to fill the gap with the C27 which can be conveniently imported from Malaysia,” the source stated.
Meanwhile, the Serena C27 would likely come with highly attractive pricing, for example within the Bt1.4 to Bt1.5 million range, in order to convince buyers not to wait another year for the C28, which will be priced considerably higher.
The Serena Highway Star S-Hybrid variant to be launched at the Motor Expo will come with a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine developing 150 horsepower and 200Nm, mated to an electric motor producing 2.6 horsepower and 48Nm.
The transmission is a CVT with average fuel economy claimed at 14.2km/l, allowing the Serena to cover up to 850km on a single tank of fuel.
Highlights of the Serena include sliding doors on both sides, powered tailgate, LED headlights/tail lights, 7.1-inch driver display, 10.1-inch center touchscreen, Zero Gravity seats on first and second rows (captain seats), ADAS package with 360-degree camera, etc.
The Serena has a length of 4,770mm, width of 1,740mm and height of 1,865mm while the wheelbase is 2,850mm.
