Great Wall Motor (GWM) has commenced production of its ORA 5 at its assembly plant in Thailand, with customer deliveries beginning this month.

The ORA 5 is built on the GWM ONE Platform, a single platform that supports multiple powertrain systems to meet requirements of different customer groups.

Produced at the GWM Smart Factory in Rayong province, the new model is available with two powertrain options – fully-electric and hybrid.

The GWM Rayong plant has a production capacity of 80,000 units per year, and churns out electric cars, hybrids and internal combustion engine vehicles all containing 50 per cent local content.

Meng Xiangjun, Chief Production Officer of GWM, said, “This platform enhances production efficiency through a high degree of standardized parts commonality, delivering stable quality and cost-effectiveness.”

“The successful launch of the first GWM ORA 5 today is significant evidence of the company’s commitment to long-term business operations and its continuous efforts to deepen roots in Thailand as an important strategic market for us,” he added.

The GWM ORA 5 production line will step in to replace the GWM ORA Good Cat, which had previously ceased production, said Wayne Zhou, Managing Director of GWM (Thailand).

“To better meet customer demand and accelerate delivery times, GWM has increased production capacity at our Thai plant following the official production line launch on May 5th,” he said. “In addition, we are importing a number of ORA 5 vehicles from China to further reduce waiting periods.”

The first 5,000 customers who placed booking for the ORA 5 during 2026 Bangkok Motor Show will receive their vehicles in May and June.
