Sales up by 44 percent at 2025 Bangkok Motorshow

BYD beat Toyota for the first time

The number of orders placed for new vehicles grew by more than 44 per cent at the recently-concluded 2025 Bangkok Motor Show, organizers announced.

A total of 77,379 orders were placed for new automobiles and 2,562 orders were placed for new motorcycles, totaling 79,941 orders, a 44.8 per cent compared to last year.

Jaturont Komolmis, chief operating officer of show organizer Grand Prix International PCL, said up to 65 per cent of orders placed for autos were for xEVs, with hybrid and electric SUVs being the most popular among buyers during the 12-day auto extravaganza.

“The important factors that caused the number of car bookings at the Bangkok Motor Show to grow by 44.8 per cent from last year included the launch of new products which are in market segments that consumers are interested in, highly competitive promotional sales campaigns, increase in confidence of many car brands in extending product quality warranties, and the government’s support policy such as the pickup truck loan guarantee scheme,” he said. “They are all important factors in giving consumers more confidence and helping them decide to purchase automobiles in the past several months.”

A total of 54 automobile and motorcycle brands took part in the event, which attracted 1.6 million visitors.

Jaturont added that auto companies also offer motorshow campaigns to customers nationwide, which helped create sales from all around the country, not just in Bangkok.

Chinese electric car maker BYD received 9,819 orders during the span of the event from March 26 to April 6, dethroning all-time champion Toyota, which received 9,615 orders.

GAC Aion was third with 7,018 orders followed by Deepal with 6,067 orders and Honda with 5,948 orders.

As Honda declined to provide figures, Yamaha was officially the top-performing motorcycle brand with 1,286 orders followed by Suzuki (224), Royal Enfield (224), Harley-Davidson (215), Triumph (170) and BMW Motorrad (165).
