Kia has officially launched its EV9 electric SUV in Thailand with prices ranging from Bt3,499,000 to Bt3,899,000 for the Long Range and GT-Line AWD variants respectively.

The Korean automaker also showcased the EV5 before displaying it at the upcoming Bangkok International Motor Show which starts on March 27.

Last year Kia Motors officially entered Thailand by establishing Kia Sales (Thailand) Co Ltd, which takes over distribution rights from former distributor Yontrakit Kia Motor Co Ltd owned by the local Leenutaphong family.

Over the years, the Thai distributor has been successful in marketing SUVs such as the Sportage and MPVs such as the Carnival. Kia plans to capture 5 per cent of the passenger car market in Thailand with EVs making up half of its sales by 2028.

The EV9 is built from Kia’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) and runs on a fourth-generation battery with a capacity of 99.9kWh in both variants.

It has a length of 5,015mm and is 1,980mm wide while the wheelbase is 3,100mm long with 20- and 21-inch wheel options being available.

The Long Range variants comes is powered by a 200-horsepower electric motor with 350Nm of torque, capable of propelling the vehicle from 0-100km/h in 9.4 seconds while the GT-Line AWD comes with dual motors developing a combined 379hp and 700Nm of torque allowing it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds. The top speeds of both variants are claimed at 185km/h for the Long Range and 200km/h for the GT-Line AWD.

According to Kia the Long Range is able to cover up to 535km (WLTP) per charge, with 24-minute fast-charging providing a range of 354kms (WLTP).

Featuring a funky exterior design with digital lighting pattern, the EV9 also comes with a full ADAS safety package and a modern interior. Highlights include a panoramic wide display consisting of a 12.3-inch driver display and 12.3-inch center touchscreen, a 5.3-inch digital climate control display,

The GT-Line also features lounge-type second-row seats with electric footrest and massage function while the Long Range features segment-first revolving seats.
