Ford is planning to introduce the 250-horsepower Ranger MS-RT on November 28 at the Thailand International Motor Expo.
The Ranger MS-RT was first displayed here in March and attracted positive from customers and dealers, leading to this variant being offered in Thailand, Ratthakarn Jutasen, managing director of Ford Thailand, said. It was initially introduced in Europe in February this year.
“The positive feedback earlier this year has inspired our dealers, reinforcing the confidence in the Ford Ranger MS-RT as a compelling new option for pickup customers,” he said.
Priced at Bt1,749,000, the Ranger MS-RT will be available in two exterior body colors – Command Grey and Absolute Black. Ford Thailand says that bookings will be open on November 28 for the initial batch consisting of 200 units.
According to the American automaker, the new Ranger variant was designed and engineered in a close collaboration between its global team and the specialists at MS-RT – an offshoot of Ford’s rally partner M-Sport – to deliver a unique combination of dramatic motorsport-inspired looks and enhanced driving experience.
Highlights in the Ranger MS-RT cover all areas, starting from exterior design to engine performance and handling. Ford says that the 3.0-litre V6 diesel-powered Ranger MS-RT uses a unique suspension and wheel set-up to enhance its on-road capability and make it the “ultimate street truck”.
It comes with a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine delivering class-leading 250 horsepower and 600Nm mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. There’s also the new e4WD full-time four-wheel drive and still maintaining the 1-ton load-carrying ability and 3,500kg of towing capacity of all-new Ranger.
In terms of design, the front end is inspired by extreme Ranger racing trucks that compete in Asia, delivering an assertive look with honeycomb grille and integrated splitter. Strangely, the Ranger MS-RT also comes with retractable side steps despite its lower ride height.
The overall stance of the truck is lowered by the sculpted side skirts and at the rear is a distinctive bumper with an integrated diffuser. The rear tailgate comes with MS-RT graphics and an exclusive ducktail spoiler, which is complemented by a cab spoiler. According to Ford, the unique combination of spoilers was optimized using computer simulations to assist with overall aerodynamic balance and to enhance high-speed stability.
Exclusive Anthracite diamond cut 21-inch wheels are paired with low‑profile 275/45 R21 tires, and are the largest wheels ever to be offered on a Ford Ranger. They sit within large flared wheel arches that extend the overall width of the vehicle by 82mm both front and rear. The track width is increased by 40mm each side for enhanced grip and stability.
The unique suspension was optimized to get to the ideal level of handling and comfort with the final configuration featuring new, firmer dampers at the front, a re-tuned rear suspension set-up and an overall 40-mm height reduction. This gives the Ranger MS-RT a more sporting stance and also provides greater handling precision and stability through corners. Meanwhile, stopping power comes from inner-vented discs both front and rear.
The interior features new seating with more supportive bolsters and seat backs on the front seats to provide a sportier look and feel while increasing comfort. There’s a sports multi-function steering wheel with blue center marking and there are numerous MS-RT badges around the cabin.
Standard equipment includes a 12-inch touchscreen with SYNC 4A, dual zone climate control, 360-degree camera, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go as well as ADAS package with Lane Keeping Assist.
