Auto sales in Thailand from January to June reached 302,694 vehicles, decreasing by 1.7 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year, according to market compiler Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT).

Suphakorn Rattanawaraha, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Thailand Co Ltd, said passenger car sales amounted to 117,482 units, falling by 1.5 per cent, while commercial vehicle sales reached 185,212 units, down 1.8 per cent.

In June, total auto sales amounted to 50,079 units, rising by 5.1 per cent compared the same month in 2024, comprising of 19,397 passenger cars (up 9.4 per cent) and 30,682 commercial vehicles (up 2.5 per cent).

Supakorn said during the first half of 2025, xEV sales make up 43.8 per cent of the total Thai auto market, growing by 21.8 per cent compared to the same period last year. The breakdown includes 67,202 hybrids (same amount as last year) and 56,529 electric vehicles (up 54.5 per cent).

Both passenger car and commercial vehicle markets enjoyed growth in June, although 1-ton pickup truck sales declined by 8.2 per cent, he added.

According to the TMT executive, the auto market is expected to remain stable or decline slightly in July, due to the general economy and the slow recovery of consumer confidence.

“Buyers may lower or delay auto purchases until factors such as US tariff and Thai-Cambodian conflict become clearer,” he said.

“However, Thai auto sales during the first half of 2025 showed positive signs, decreasing by only 1.7 per cent, while Toyota’s projection of the 2025 total market is 600,000 units,” he added.

Toyota, the top auto producer in Thailand, aims to grow sales by five per cent to 231,000 units in 2025, for a 38.5-per cent market share.

The Japanese automaker will launch three new models during the second half of the year including a passenger car, pickup truck as well as an electric car.
