Auto sales in Thailand have shown signs of recovery with more than 55,000 vehicles sold in March, according to auto sales compiler Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) Co Ltd.
A total of 55,798 vehicles were sold in the country in March, down by 0.5 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to TMT vice president Supakorn Ratanavaraha.

He said sales of passenger cars amounted to 21,054 units (down 5.8 per cent) while commercial vehicle sales grew by 2.9 per cent to 34,744 units.
The automobile market in April has tendency to improve slightly,” he said. “The indicator being the number of car bookings at the 46th Bangkok International Motor Show in late March to early April, which increased by 44.8 per cent from last year.”
Supakorn said the total number of bookings for Toyota nationwide during the motor show period was more than 21,000 units, of which 9,600 bookings were placed at the Motor Show.
“And for the 9,600 bookings, they are in the process of requesting loan approval from financial institutions,” he added. “Toyota expects to be able to deliver more than 7,600 cars to customers in the Bangkok and surrounding areas within April. This is a sign that the auto market is recovering, which may result in better overall sales this year.”

In March, Toyota was the top seller with 21,575 units (no change compared to the same period last year) for a commanding 38.7-per cent market share over Honda and Isuzu which are in second and third positions respectively.
Honda sales declined by 3.8 per cent to 7,909 units, giving the Japanese brand a 14.2-per cent market share while Isuzu sales fell by 17.4 per cent to 7,320 units with a 13.1-per cent market share.
From January to March, a total of 15,3193 vehicle were sold, with Toyota being the top brand with 57,683 units, followed by Honda and Isuzu with 21,369 units and 20,289 units respectively.
