Isuzu has reached the 3-million-unit milestone for vehicle exports from Thailand, consisting of the Isuzu D-MAX pickup truck and Mu-X PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicle).

Takashi Hata, managing director of Tri Petch Isuzu Sales Co Ltd, the Isuzu distributor in Thailand, said, “This milestone reflects Thailand’s status as one of the world’s most important automobile production hubs.”

Isuzu relocated its 1-ton pickup truck production base from Japan to Thailand back in 2002. Apart from supplying the Thai market, which is Isuzu’s largest 1-ton truck market in the world, the vehicles were also exported to over 120 countries around the world.

“This is a testament of the high acceptance of Thai-made Isuzu vehicles in the global market,” Hata added.

In April 2025 Isuzu also initiated EV exports from Thailand to Europe, although the D-MAX EV has yet to be introduced in Thailand.

The electric motor in the D-MAX EV churns out 140kW (190ps) and 325Nm of torque, providing a trailing capacity of 3,500kgs. It comes with a 66.9kWh lithium-ion battering providing a range of 263kms WLTP (361kms WLTP City mode). Quick charging via 50kWh DC charger takes one hour (20-80%) while 11kW AC charging from 0-100% takes 10 hours.

“Isuzu has a clear business approach, committed to growing together with Thailand and building a strong value chain for the Thai automotive industry,” Hata said. “This is achieved through massive investment in production, utilizing over 90 per cent locally sourced parts in its pickup trucks, making them a product champion exported to over 120 countries worldwide.”

“Furthermore, technology transfer has been facilitated by relocating R&D (research and development) centers from Japan to Thailand for both small and large vehicles. This has created a broad, deep, and robust global automotive supply chain, contributing to Thailand currently having over 2,500 automotive parts manufacturers and employing over 850,000 people in the industry,” Hata revealed.

Isuzu first entered Thailand in 1957 and started assembling vehicle here in 1963 for both domestic and export markets.

From 1957 to 2025, Isuzu has produced over six million vehicles in Thailand, with almost 50 per cent being for export to global markets.

The first 1-million-unit export milestone was achieved by Isuzu Thailand in 2014 and the two-million-unit aggregate came in 2019, before reaching three-million-units in 2025.
