Chinese automaker BYD and Rever Group have signed a license and supply agreement to set up the first BYD electric commercial vehicle assembly plant in Thailand.
It would be the first electric commercial vehicle assembly facility for BYD outside of China, according to Rever Automotive Co Ltd, which is also the official distributor of BYD passenger cars in the Kingdom.
The new commercial electric bus and truck assembly plant will assemble interior and exterior components for electric buses and trucks. Among the new technologies BYD plan to offer in the Thailand are its iron-phosphate battery that offers high efficiency and longer lifespan, as well as 6-in-1 motor controller.
Rever CEO Prathanwong Phornprapha said he believes the project will not only create a large number of jobs but also generate huge financial benefits for Thailand.
“It will also contribute to the transition of the commercial vehicle industry in Thailand from internal combustion engines to electric motors and help lower carbon emissions in the transport sector,” he said.
