Auto sales grow by 24 per cent in October

Thai auto sales surged by 24.8 per cent in October, indicating a positive trend for the recuperating automobile market.

According to figures compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) Co Ltd, a total of 47,032 vehicles were sold in October, shooting up by 24.6 per cent compared to the corresponding month a year ago.

October sales consisted of 19,291 units while commercial vehicle sales reached 27,741 units, equivalent to growth of 24 per cent and 27.8 per cent respectively.

TMT executive vice president Supakorn Ratanawaraha said auto sales are likely to remain stable in November as customers wait for attractive year-end sales promotions at the annual Motor Expo.

“Meanwhile, a high percentage of car loans are still being declined, which puts pressure on consumer confidence and purchasing power,” he said. “However, there are positive factors like the government’s pickup truck promotion, offering non-bank financing as well as captive finance. This allows SME owners to benefit from a wider range of financing options.”

According to the Toyota report, total auto sales have reached 495,001 units during the first 10 months of 2025, an increase of 3.9 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

Suparat said that 40 per cent of auto sales consisted of passenger cars, while 60 per cent belonged to commercial vehicles, including 1-ton pickup trucks.

“This shows that the commercial vehicle market is still an important market that helps drive the Thai automobile industry,” he said.

Toyota had recently launched its new Hilux Travo pickup truck last month while arch rival Isuzu has also given its existing D-MAX range a full makeover. Both brands make up the majority of the Thai 1-ton pickup market with Toyota holding a 45.2-per cent market share and Isuzu 33.2 per cent market share from January to October this year.
