Honda will stop assembling vehicles at its Ayutthaya plant in Thailand and relocate all production to its Prachin Buri plant, the company announced.
According to an announcement from Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co Ltd, the Ayutthaya plant will be developed for for parts production and export while vehicles produced at the Prachin Buri plant will be supplied to the domestic and export markets.
Honda said it plans to continuously transform into xEV-based production, with its current hybrid products gaining popularity in the market (up from 32 per cent in 2022 to 70 per cent in 2024). The Prachin Buri plant currently produces the Honda e:N1 electric car in small numbers for the rental market.
According to additional reports, Honda plans to cut Thai production from 270,000 units in 2023 to 140,000 units in 2024.
