MG has introduced the VS HEV crossover that is more competitive than the ZS in the hotly-contested Thai B-SUV segment.

Priced at Bt859,000 for the D variant and Bt919,000 for the X variant, the VS is MG’s first hybrid model in Thailand.

While the ZS is available with an all-electric variant and the HS has a plugin hybrid variant, MG needed a hybrid to compete more competitively against other hybrid crossovers like the Honda HR-V, Toyota Corolla Cross and Nissan Kicks.

The VS has similar dimensions with the ZS and comes with a striking front end featuring an “Electrified Matrix Grille”, LED lighting all-round and 17-inch wheels with aero wheel cover to help improve aerodynamics.

Other exterior highlights include panoramic sunroof, roof rails and good-looking glossy black garnish.

The interior boasts two 12.3-inch screens consisting of HD smart Full Virtual Dashboard and a Touch Screen connected to the i-SMART operating system. A 360-degree camera system is offered, although the 12-system safety package doesn’t come with intelligent safety functions like automatic emergency braking.

There’s an illuminated touch panel control for the air-conditioner as well as wireless charging pad, double layer console as well as both USB Type-A and Type-C ports. Rear passengers get air vents as well as USB ports as well.

The VS HEV is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine mated to an electric motor producing 177hp transmitted to the front wheels via an e-CVT.

“MG has added various types of engines in our line-up — including diesel, benzine, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric — in order to offer more alternatives for customers,” said Zhang Haibo, president of SAIC Motor – CP Co Ltd and MG Sales (Thailand) Co Ltd.

“The VS HEV is also outstanding for its sporty and stylish design, high technology and hybrid performance that responds to the modern digital lifestyle,” he added.
