MG is hoping to win the hearts of the younger generation with the unveiling of the MG Cyberster concept car, featuring the world’s first electric super sports gaming cockpit, at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show.

The 97-year-old brand says it hopes to rekindle the sports car dream for the young-at-heart with a high-energy romanticism concept, while launching the MG CyberCUBE, which allows consumers to become participants, decision makers and beneficiaries of this “to be or not to be” future model together with MG.

Other MG highlights at the show include special models featuring the “technological & trendy” concept such as the tuning version of the third-gen MG6 XPOWER featured in the Bilibili gaming version, the new MG5, MG Linghang PHEV and MG6 PHEV cross-border cooperation versions that attracted attention from the young generation.

The MG booth also showcased a series of trendy interactive games. Visitors can play games on an MG-shaped interactive screen device, customize their favorite MG6 XPOWER on the MG XPOWER online store for a virtual race track driving experience, participate in the exclusive YOUNG declaration in the MG5 selfie space, and travel from the past to the present via time glass technology.

According to MG, it has created a new product line called “Dream Technology Incubator” or MG Cyber, with the Cyberster reflecting the technical level and youthful thinking of the Cyber product line.

Being the world’s first electric super sports gaming cockpit, the Cyberster adopts MG’s new “High-Energy Romanticism” design philosophy and combines violent aesthetics with romanticism. MG said the design of the Cyberster was highly praised by the global media and fans as soon as the official images were exposed, thanks to modern design elements. They include a solid and dynamic sports car proportion, a “Wind Hunter” front design, “Magic Eye” interactive headlights, “Laser Belt” highlight, “Red Wing” taillights and “Kammback” tail design.

In terms of performance, the Cyberster can achieve a range of 800 kilometers through the application of module-free battery (CTP) technology. With the new 8-layer hairpin motor, it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in less than 3 seconds. In addition, its L3 autonomous driving technology and intelligent “atomized upgrade” technology also bring each consumer exclusive experiences, according to MG.

“As a carrier of MG brand connotation, the Cyber product line is developed focusing on five key words: C-Co-creating, Y-Young, B-Beyond, E-Evolution, and R-Recreation. Inheriting MG’s history nearly a hundred years to the present, the Cyber product line is polishing MG’s charming appearance and intelligent technology,” MG announced at the Show.

Meanwhile at the Shanghai Auto Show, MG’s first auto co-creation platform, the MG CyberCUBE, was officially launched. MG said that as early as the first rendered image of the Cyberster was released, many consumers asked whether it is just a concept car or would it be mass-produced in the future.

To answer this, MG brand has launched a new business model, and how to realize the mass production of the new model will be determined by users on the MG CyberCUBE co-creation platform.

The MG CyberCUBE platform is divided into two major sections – crowd-funding and crowd-creation. The crowd-funding sector determines whether the MG Cyberster will be mass-produced, and the crowd-creation sector determines how. The target quantity of crowd-funding is 5000 shares (1 share equals to 1,000 RMB). From now until July 31, users can log in to the MG CyberCUBE platform, and put down 1,000 RMB as “Dream Gold” for deposit to participate in the crowd-funding. Once the target shares are reached, the project is considered to be successfully launched.

Continuing from a successful motorsports history, winning the TCR China’s annual team and model championship double crowns in 2020. MG will launch official tuning versions of MG XPOWER based on the production models this year. In May, it will also bring users the MGLive! Auto tuning culture event and organize a carnival party exclusively for MG Fans.

According to MG, in 2021 it will continue to focus on topics such as “customized sports tuning”, “fashion & trendy “, “intelligent technology” and “e-sports “, to reflect the youthful image of the brand.
