Mazda has introduced the 2020 MX-5 RF (Retractable Fastback) in both manual and automatic versions for the Thai market, identically priced at Bt2.905 million.

It’s the second time that Mazda is introducing a new model online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Previously in March it launched the CX-30 model with high success, with more than 2,000 orders placed online.

The 2020 MX-5 RF comes with new perforated leather seats, gray interior stitching, scuff plate, 17-inch metallic black alloy wheels, 7-inch center display and Bose audio system with 9 loudspeakers.

The roadster is powered by a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G engine developing 184hp and 205Nm.

Customers can choose either a 6-speed automatic or the 6-speed manual gearbox, the latter brought back due to customer demand.

There are 4 airbags, anti-theft system as well as i-Activesense intelligent safety package. The SCBS system has been updated to the Advanced SCBS system for the 2020 model, and applies the brakes if it detects vehicles and pedestrians in front.

Mazda is also offering the new polymetal gray body color for the MX-5 RF. Mazda says the new color blends the hard appearance of metal with the glossy smoothness of plastics.

Chanchai Trakarnudomsuk, president of Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co Ltd, said, “In this landmark year (Mazda’s 100th anniversary), Mazda is introducing the latest updated MX-5. The common goal of the latest update and the ones that preceded it in 2017 and 2018 is to make the Mazda MX-5 even more appealing and desirable, and to deliver the fun of driving an MX-5 to a growing number of customers.”

Since the current-generation MX-5 was offered in Thailand in November 2015, more than 150 units have been sold, Chanchai said.
