Mercedes-Benz has introduced the locally-assembled version of the facelifted GLC and GLC Coupe, offering Thai customers lower pricing than previous fully-imported models.
The GLC 220 d CKD (Completely Knock Down) and the GLC 220 d AMG Dynamic CKD are priced at Bt3.239 million and Bt3.699 million respectively, while the GLC 220 d 4MATIC Coupe AMG Dynamic CKD will cost customers Bt4.04 million.
Roland Folger, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited (MBT), said, “During the past year, rising sales in the category of SUV have been an essential attribute for our continuous success, not only in Thailand but also on a global scale. We delivered 820,721 units to our customers last year and this accounts for more than a third of all Mercedes-Benz sales. Among all of our SUV offerings, the GLC is currently one of our best-selling SUVs.”
The GLC 220 d is powered by a 1,950cc turbo-diesel engine capable of producing 194hp and 400Nm (from 1,600rpm), mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 7.7 seconds for the GLC 220 d and GLC 220 d AMG Dynamic, and 7.9 seconds for the heavier GLC 220 d 4MATIC Coupe AMG Dynamic. The top speed is claimed at 217km/h across the range.
Average fuel economy is claimed at 18.8-19.6km/liter for the basic models and 16.6-19.2km/liter for the Coupe.
The GLC’s 550-liter luggage area can be expanded to 1,600 liters (500-1,400 liters for the Coupe) with the rear seat backrests folded.
A five-mode DYNAMIC SELECT driving setup system comes as standard. The AMG Dynamic trim includes a radar-based Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, ACTIVE Parking Assist and a high-end Burmester surround sound system.
Meanwhile, exclusive additions for the local production GLC 220 d 4MATIC Coupe AMG Dynamic in Thailand are Active Brake Assist system (ABA) and Blind Spot Assist
According to Mercedes-Benz, all three vehicles are equipped with the “Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX)” multimedia system with AI integration, as well as a “Mercedes me connect”, a centralized and seamless connectivity system between owner, vehicle and dealers.
Bjoern Gustrau, MBT’s vice president for sales and marketing, added: “The new GLC and GLC Coupé come with an all-new LED high-performance headlamp design and are equipped with new, innovative features fitted with our luxury crossovers such as ‘Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX)’ which is a personal, on board assistant supporting voice recognition and an ability to algorithmically learn preferences of the driver to create a perfect profile ensuring the driver will stay informed with important information or notifications all the way while the enhanced ‘Mercedes me connect’ allows a convenient connection between driver, the vehicle itself and authorized dealers of Mercedes-Benz.”
