When it comes to a project or activity that promotes and encourages creativity and imagination in youth and is considered an inspiring way for young people to pursue their dreams, the “Honda Super Idea Contest” comes into mind. Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co Ltd has continually held this contest for the past 17 years, during which over 430,000 students across the country from grades 1 to 6 submitted creative ideas based on their dreams and imaginations, designing future inventions that are fun, creative, and benefit society.

“To encourage children’s dreams, creativity, and imagination, Honda has held the ‘Honda Super Idea Contest’ for eighteen consecutive years with an aim to search for young inventors, as we believe in encouraging and supporting children to unlock their infinite creative energy and strive to grow to become a major force in the future,” Noriyuki Takakura, president and CEO of Honda Automobile (Thailand), said.

Last year, the contest was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic so Honda could continue to unleash children’s imaginations. We received around 5,723 entries for the contest, which is a positive response. This years’ winners will receive a royal plaque from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn along with scholarships and the opportunity to go on a field trip to Japan in a cultural exchange to master new skills.

Parit Pongsataporn, who won the Honda Super Idea Contest 2017 for his “Health-Conscious Toilet Flushing” idea, and is currently studying in the 8th grade at Chon Ratsadon Amrung School, Chonburi province, said, “Joining the contest and going on a field trip to Japan encouraged me to express my ideas in a more creative way and develop more systematic thinking, which resulted in me further coming up with various creative works and improving my learning in the classroom. I encourage other students to submit their ideas and not be afraid of the disappointment of not being rewarded or praised, because what really matters is that we are capable of unlocking our creativity and talent.”

Wiwissana Phonsomboon, a runner-up in the Honda Super Idea Contest 2021 for her idea of a “Robot Turtle to Eliminate Weeds and Produce Fertilizer” and is currently studying in the 4th grade at Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School, Elementary School, said, “Simple things can allow you to come up with ideas and inventions for the contest as they promote creativity and have social benefits. For example, my ‘Robot Turtle to Eliminate Weeds and Produce Fertilizer’ originated from my hobby of raising pet turtles at home. I think it would be wonderful to develop a robotic turtle that mows lawns to reduce the use of polluting fuel and eliminate the risk of danger from using sharp blades while making natural compost to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. Japanese children who attended the online workshop also liked my idea and agreed that it is useful and environmentally friendly.”
