Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Ltd will showcase the sleek new CLS saloon at this year’s Bangkok Motor Show, the company announced.
The first model to come from the third-generation CLS lineup in Thailand will be the CLS 300 d AMG Premium, with pricing to be announced at the Show on March 27. This is the first time in the world that a right-hand-drive CLS is being launched, making this a global launch event, according to an official from Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Ltd.
Meanwhile, a 4-cylinder petrol version is expected to join the lineup in the near future.
Being an AMG version, the 300 d gets a single-louvre front grille like other Mercedes sports models, multi-beam LED headlamps, LED with fiber optic tail lamps, powered panoramic sunroof, AMG aerodynamic package and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The interior is highlighted by illuminated air vents inspired by jet turbines that briefly changes color to show the temperature (red and blue). And for the cabin ambience lighting, there’s a total of 64 colors to choose from.
The rear seats are split-foldable (20-40-20), helping to further increase the 520-liter luggage space.
Mercedes says that the seats were designed exclusively for this model series, introducing a five-seat arrangement to the CLS for the first time.
Other features offered in the CLS 300 d AMG Premium include KEYLESS-GO vehicle entry system plus HAND-FREE ACCESS functionality, Dual-Zone THERMATIC automatic climate control, Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Active Light System (ALS), Parking Pilot including Active Parking Assist, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC for a safe tailgating distance, and a preinstalled navigation system. A high-end Burmester Surround Sound System is standard along with an in-cabin connectivity system with compatibility for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto, as well as a Bluetooth receiver for smart device pairing.
The 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel is capable of pumping out 245hp at 4,200rpm and a whopping 500Nm of torque from 1,600-2,400rpm, giving the CLS 300 d plenty of oomph. It comes with a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles.
Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 6.4 seconds, and the top speed is claimed at 250km/h.
