Pros – Great pricing, lively engine, 11-in Smart TV

Cons -Mediocre fuel economy, low-res camera

The Nissan Terra Sport pickup passenger vehicle (PPV) takes a bold leap forward with a near-total redesign that significantly enhances its appeal.

Priced at Bt1.555 million, the family-friendly Terra Sport pickup passenger vehicle (PPV) with a sense of adventure, positions itself as a highly affordable contestant in the fiercely-fought four-wheel-drive PPV market in Thailand.

In Thailand, the Terra competes against the Toyota Fortuner 2.4 Legender (Bt1.688 million), Isuzu MU-X 3.0 RS (Bt1.759 million), Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2.4 GT Premium (Bt1.629 million) and Ford Everest 2.0 Titanium (Bt1.912 million).

Both the exterior and interior of the ageing Terra have been refreshed, blending rugged capability with a touch of luxury. Apart from the Nissan 360-degree Safety Shield technology package, the Japanese automaker also provides warranty covering parts and accessories for three years or 100,000 kilometers, plus 24-hour roadside assistance.

PERFORMANCE

Under the hood, the Terra Sport is equipped with a 2.3-liter, 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel engine (YS23DDTT) that produces 190 horsepower and 450Nm of torque available from just 1,500rpm.

It’s paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission and a part-time shift-on-fly 4WD system, promising good performance both on and off the road, particularly with the large amount of low-rev torque being available. The addition of electronic limited slip differential (B-LSD) and a rear diff-lock system further bolsters its off-road capability.

The top speed is approximately 190km/h (unofficial) while the official fuel economy according to the Eco Sticker is 13.1km/liter.

The Terra Sport navigates through city traffic with ease, while its high driving position provides excellent visibility, making tight maneuvers easier than expected. The steering weight might seem slightly heavy at low speeds, but as speed build up it improves and offers decent precision as well.

While initial acceleration may feel slightly sluggish, as the turbocharger kicks in, the engine quickly finds its rhythm, delivering smooth, steady power with good overtaking performance.

The Terra Sport handles hills and rough terrains without breaking a sweat, thanks to the well-calibrated double wishbone/five-link suspension that comes with stabilizers front and rear, providing occupants with a pleasant ride comfort. There’s also good stopping power from vented discs both front and rear.

Long drives are particularly comfortable, as the suspension absorbs road imperfections effectively. However, cornering at higher speeds does reveal some body roll, a minor trade-off for the capability it offers in off-road situations, which is typical to PPVs.

DESIGN

The most striking feature of the new Terra Sport is its exterior, which now boasts sharper, more dynamic lines featured through the “Unbreakable Design” concept.

Compared to the pre-facelift model, it’s a clear step up in visual appeal. The front end is more cohesive, with a larger grille that incorporates glossy black accents instead of the previous chrome trim, and Quad LED 4 headlights that Nissan claims offer superior efficiency. These slim, high-output lights, flanked by new Daytime Running Lights and a carefully crafted silver skid plate, create a modern, aggressive stance.

The rear is equally refined, with a new spoiler and redesigned bumper, plus dual LED tail-lights that enhance the vehicle’s width. The 18-inch alloy wheels, finished in a two-tone polished design, complete the exterior overhaul.

Inside, Nissan’s designers have shifted the Terra towards a more refined yet practical cabin featuring elevated, theater-style layout. With seating for seven, the Terra Sport caters to long-distance travel, offering high-quality entertainment systems and an Intelligent Rearview Camera that comes in handy when the luggage compartment is filled up.

The second-row seats come with fold & tumble feature, which can be also operated via switches on the front console.

TECH & SAFETY

The 9-inch infotainment screen, compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, pairs seamlessly with a BOSE surround sound system, while rear passengers are treated to an 11-inch ceiling-mounted display with TV stick.

Apart from a wireless phone charger, there are five USB charging ports in the cabin (Type A and C) located in the front and center console, second and third rows, ensuring that every passenger stays powered up throughout the trip. The 7-inch 3D Advanced Driver Assist TFT Display also provides data on vertical and horizontal angles of inclination during off-road mode, the intelligent 4×4 System, tire pressure and fuel economy.

Standard safety inclusions such as ABS, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Hill Descent Control, Blind Spot Warning, and a 360-Degree Around View Monitor, make this vehicle as safe as it is capable. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as Front Collision Warning and Driver Fatigue Warning give Terra drivers peace of mind when travelling long distances.

Another cool feature is the Intelligent Rearview Mirror that displays live images of the rear view via an LCD monitor, which is particularly helpful when the luggage area is fully loaded.

VERDICT

The Nissan Terra Sport is an alluring package that blends rugged off-road capability with refined comfort and modern tech.

Its bold, athletic exterior and luxurious interior create an environment suited for both adventurous expeditions and everyday commutes.

With a price tag of Bt1,555,000, the range-topping 2.3 VL 4WD variant offers exceptional value, especially when compared to other rivals in the market. For those seeking a vehicle that confidently navigates both urban and off-road terrain, the Terra Sport remains a reliable, compelling choice.
